First it was Jeff Foxworthy. Then it was Larry the Cable Guy. Now it’s redneck baby names. Okay, I’m just kidding. The idea of choosing a redneck baby name is not just some joke. In fact, the people jokingly referred to as rednecks actually make up an important culture in America. As a matter of fact, people from rural America are more similar to the founding fathers and mothers of our nation. The modern, chic urban people of today are the new, strange ones compared to the larger picture of U.S. history. All of that being said, choosing a redneck baby name is actually a good way to continue our American heritage.

Of course, there are names more commonly seen as being redneck. Any name that is made of two smaller names, such as Billy Joe, Bubba Joe, or Billy Bob is automatically classified as a redneck name. Bubba is actually a variation of the work “brother”, which implies a person of loyalty and love. However, keep in mind that there are many stereotypes are held by society related to those with these names, and to those who have thick southern accents. If a doctor were to walk into the examing room and say in a thick country twang accent “Hello, I’m doctor Bubba Joe Wilson, and I think we should operate on you.” The patient might run for the nearest exit. Keep all this in mind as you are choosing what to name your child.
