Shopping for baby clothes can either be a wonderful time or your worst nightmare. It depends upon many factors, but the most important factors are the ones you control. This is true whether it’s crazy holiday shopping or any other time of year. You as the consumer are in control of where, when and with what budget you shop, and these can make or break your experience.
Where you choose to buy from is the most important choice to make. A large discount store that sells infant apparel is going to generally be much busier than a small baby clothing boutique. This affects you in two ways. First, the selection of clothes is going to be wider and more specialized at a smaller store. Larger stores have more money to invest, but they’re concerned with having a little bit of everything. So, you need to decide if a general gift is okay or if you need some unique baby clothing. Second, shopping at a larger store is going to be more physically challenging, because of the large number of people jostling to get around the store and grab what they want. Boutiques are designed to have an appealing atmosphere and so are more comfortable. Another option to consider is to buy your baby clothes online. This completely eliminates the two problems and usually offers better pricing than a physical storefront. E-commerce sites offer comparable infant apparel at lower prices because of the lower overhead costs for the store. You have to remember that physical stores have to pay rent for the location, employee wages, utility bills, building maintenance, etc. For web stores these costs are either greatly reduced or eliminated. So, if you can’t find what you want at a store or if you know you want trendy and funky baby clothes that a physical store can’t offer, then online shopping is the way to go.
It’s very important to shop at the right time. This includes time of day and time of month. Surprisingly, this applies to online shopping as well as going to a storefront. You do not want to shop for baby clothing at a store or site when hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of other people are dashing madly to buy the same items. This will increase your chances of getting what you want and will make the whole experience easier. For example, the best time of day to shop is usually earlier on. As for being an early bird shopper, since there won’t be as many people out in the morning, you have a better chance of getting around easily, getting what you need and getting out. The best time of year for Christmas and holiday gifts is around late September to early November. This way, you get to see what products are offered for the season and you don’t have to worry about the store’s inventory running low.
Shopping for infant clothing on a budget is the best way to ensure you don’t get carried away by flashy displays hiding high prices. There seems to be some sort of buyer’s fever that spreads when a large group of shoppers are on the hunt. It’s important to also keep a list of exactly what you want. If you are out specifically to find a baby shower gift idea, then don’t let yourself get drawn away into buying a bunch of other stuff. Budgeting the amount that you actually spend will also make sure that every baby on your gift list will get something. Remember, just because baby clothes are hip and cool, they don’t have to be expensive.
